Local Teacher Makes National News

Stephanie Taylor chatted with Fredericksburg native and Chancellor High School graduate Kensey Jones, about her recent classroom project that made the national news.

Kensey is a 2nd grade teacher at St. Michael’s Episcopal School in Richmond where she used an innovative teaching method to help her students learn persuasive writing and get involved in the community.

She assigned the students the task to write from the perspective of dogs up for adoption at Richmond Animal Care and Adoption Center.  The shelter then posted the students’ stories on the dogs’ kennels.  So far, 21 of the 24 dogs have been adopted.

Kensey appeared on Good Morning America and The Drew Barrymore Show also covered the story.
